Rome Rottweilers

The Rottweiler
The Best Companion
The Rottweiler is a breed of dog whose ancestors were working dogs called drover dogs. Drover, as you may have already guessed, means cattle-driving. The Romans would have these dogs accompany them along with their herds while invading Europe. The name Rottweiler comes from the town that the Romans had left, now known as Rottweil, Germany. During the Middle Ages to around the 1900s, the Rottweiler would come along with the butcher on most journeys for protection, but also to carry his money pouch to the market and back. Sadly, during the 19th century, the Rottweiler breed almost went extinct. As the need for the "drover dog" diminished, they almost ceased to exist. They were able to make a comeback in the early 20th century when they found new roles. These roles include police dogs, military dogs, rescue dogs, and even therapy dogs. All of these roles have given the Rottweiler a new chance to show their amazing personalities in the working world.
Rottweilers have so many amazing traits, but lets touch on just a few.

The rottie is highly intelligent. Most authorities agree that the rottie is one of the smartest dogs, placing them somewhere in the top 10 dog breeds. They respond to training quickly, and love to please the owner. Rottweilers will often be more content when given a job as opposed to sitting around all day...although you can still count on them for some couch time.

Rotties are also very brave and confident. This is why they excel in police and military work, because of their bravery. Their confidence also makes them great protection dogs, warding off anyone who tries to harm their owner.

The last (and most important trait in my opinion) trait is that of their loyalty. The Rottweiler is fiercely loyal to its owner, but why? They were raised to work hard for you and with you, hence the drover dog period. Devoted is another word that comes to mind when I think of this incredible dog. They will be fully devoted to you, and your family, when brought up with love and respect.

The Rottweilers gentle disposition makes this dog a perfect choice for a family dog, whose bound to love, protect, and respect you as long as it shall live.
